As the Director of Logistics, you will be responsible for overseeing the strategic planning, development, implementation, and management of all aspects of the logistics and supply chain operations within the organization. Your role will involve ensuring efficient and cost-effective transportation, distribution, warehousing, and inventory management processes to meet business objectives and customer demands. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage a diverse workforce, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize logistics operations.
The Challenges
Logistics Strategy and Planning:
- Develop and execute the organization’s logistics strategy in alignment with overall business goals
- Identify opportunities for enhancing operational efficiency, reducing costs, and improving customer satisfaction.
- Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive innovation in logistics operations.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, and manage a team of logistics professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations to promote individual and team growth.
Operational Efficiency:
- Identify areas for process improvement and implement strategies to streamline logistics operations.
- Optimize transportation routes, distribution networks, and order fulfilment processes to maximize resource utilization.
- Implement technology solutions such as transportation management systems (TMS) and warehouse management systems (WMS) to enhance efficiency.
Cost Management:
- Monitor and control logistics budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining service quality.
- Analyze and manage transportation, warehousing, and other logistics-related expenses, identifying opportunities for cost savings.
Performance Metrics:
- Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of logistics operations.
- Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on performance, trends, and areas requiring attention.
What It Takes
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Proven experience (minimum 8+ years) in progressively responsible roles within logistics and supply chain management.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a diverse workforce.
- In-depth knowledge of logistics processes, including transportation, warehousing, distribution, and inventory management.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives.
